OutStanding Ovation at TIFF
Canadian filmmaker Mélanie Charbonneau brings Sandra’s story to the big screen with the feature film, Out Standing.
Based on Sandra’s best-selling memoir, Out Standing opens with Sandra’s resignation from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) at the height of her career. As the CAF launch an investigation, a shocking photo emerges and propels her story into the national spotlight.
“From the moment I read Sandra Perron’s memoir, I knew I had to make it into a film,” said director Mélanie Charbonneau. “Sandra fiercely pushed into uncharted territory so that those who followed could go even further. It’s such an honour to bring her story to the big screen.”
Charbonneau and her crew filmed Out Standing on location in Montreal and Hamilton throughout April and May 2024. The film debuted at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
Out Standing was produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada, SODEC, Ontario Creates, the Canada Media Fund, Crave and CBC Films. It is distributed by Sphere Films in Canada, and will be in theatres September 26, 2025.
