The Connect-HERs initiative is a new program to address challenges encountered by women veterans experiencing homelessness. Through the outreach efforts of trained Pepper Pod volunteers, the program will positively impact the lives of women veterans who face housing instability by connecting them with helpful community organizations and resources.

Connect-HERs are dedicated members of the Pepper Pod community who have an ongoing desire to serve and give back. The program is currently operating in the Ottawa/Gatineau area and serves women who have served in the military and are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Program Update

The Connect-HERS initiative is in full swing, and we’ll be rolling out even more aspects of the program soon. Here’s an update on some of the progress to date.

1. Program Development:
Our team has established partnerships with local organizations and resource providers. We’re sharing information about the Connect-HERS and expanding a network of resources that women veterans can access.

2. Volunteer Recruitment: ** Information session 16 April 2025 **
We are actively recruiting volunteers from within the Pepper Pod community. Connect-HERS volunteers will receive specialized training about vulnerable populations, building trusting relationships, and offering support to women veterans in need.

3. Community Engagement:
Outreach and engagement are key to the success of this program. We continue to grow awareness through local events, marketing efforts, and partnerships with reputable organizations already established in the support sector. By working alongside shelters, veteran service organizations, and healthcare providers, Connect-HERs facilitate access to a network of resources. These partnerships are vital to the success of the program.

4. Looking Ahead
The program is advancing daily. Stay tuned for future developments:
